Vagamon Tourism

Vagamon, also spelt Wagamon, is a hill station located in Meenachil taluk and Kanjirappally taluk of Kottayam district and Peerumade taluk of Idukki district of the state of Kerala, India.
Thangalpara, which is essentially a place of pilgrimage, is also one of the best viewpoints of Vagamon, offering breathtaking views of the entire valley below, surrounded by mountains on all its sides. Thangalpara is essentially a huge rock at the edge of a precipice, and it has religious significance as it was once the resting place of Hasrath Sheikh Fariduddin Baba, a revered Sufi Saint.

While the name might sound a little misleading, Barren Hills in Vagamon is one of the best places to visit, and depending on the season in which you go on a vacation, you can get to see the hills turn from bare to lush and back to bare again as the seasons keep cycling.
Vagamon Lake is another crowd-puller, and while the lake is not exactly huge, it is big enough to offer rowing, boating and other water activities. Bordered by hilly mountains on all sides, the Vagamon Lake is the perfect place to watch a magnificent sunrise or sunset.

Vagamon is gradually gaining attention for being one of India’s topmost adventure tourism spot, with activities such as trekking, rock climbing and paragliding being offered to tourists. Cycling through the mountains is another interesting activity that visitors can participate in to get a better feel of the place. The Kerala Tourism Department and the Adventure Sports and Sustainable Tourism Academy (AASTA) celebrates an International Paragliding festival in Vagamon each year, which is very popular with both the tourists as well as the locals.
