Narnaul is mostly visited by the foreign travelers and heritage enthusiasts but the religious temples have also been a place of attraction for spiritual seekers all around the world. As per the stories, the existence of this town can be traced back to the time of Mahabharata. The name, Narmaul, has been given for which there is a myth. As per the myth, the jungles were traversed by a ferocious lion and thus the town was given the name, Narnaul, which stands for ‘fear of lion’.
Narnaul’s history is quite intriguing. This is the birth place of Sher Shah, the renowned Suri king. Here, the post of a jagirdar was held by Sheh Khan’s father, who also served his duty for Jahangir. A minting factory was constructed at this location by Akbar. The Rajputs gained command of this place, when the power of the Mughal Empire started declining. The British Government took over the administration of the place, after the 1857 revolution.
