Uttar Pradesh is a state in northern India. Its city of Agra is home to the iconic Taj Mahal monument, a colossal, domed, white-marble mausoleum honouring the wife of 17th-century Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Nearby are the red-brick walls of Agra Fort, a fortified palace dating to the 16th and 17th centuries. Capital Lucknow has Muslim memorial shrines Bara Imambara and calligraphy-adorned Chota Imambara.

History
The history of Uttar Pradesh the Northern Indian state, stretches back technically to its formation on 1 April 1937 as the North-Western Provinces of Agra and Awadh, but the region itself shows the presence of human habitation dating back to between 85,000 and 73,000 years ago. The region seems to have been domesticated as early as 6,000 BC.

BY AIR - Uttar Pradesh has four domestic airports at Lucknow, Agra, Kanpur and Varanasi. The capital of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow is well-connected to the major cities of the country such as New Delhi, Kolkata, Patna and Mumbai through domestic flight operators. Varanasi and Lucknow also serve as the international airports of Uttar Pradesh. Regular flights operate between Uttar Pradesh and other regions of the country. On reaching the airport, travelers can hire taxi or take bus to reach their final destination.

BY RAIL - The most convenient way of reaching Uttar Pradesh is through rail. The main railhead of Uttar Pradesh is Lucknow. Other important railway junctions are Agra, Kanpur, Faizabad, Allahabad, Mughal Sarai, Jhansi, Moradabad, Varanasi, Tundla, Gorakhpur, Gonda, Bareilly and Sitapur. All the cities and towns of the state are well-connected to different parts of the country via rail. After reaching the railway station, tourists have an option of taking taxis or buses to reach their destination.

BY ROAD - All parts of the state are connected to important cities of the country via national highways, state highways and district roads. State and private roadways buses operate on regular basis between Uttar Pradesh and other major regions of the country.
